How to Enter

  1. Collect Materials: Visit ATT to pick up free offcuts* for your project.

  2. Document Your Start: We'll take a "before" photo of the offcuts—with you if possible—and record your contact details.

  3. Create: Challenge yourself to craft something innovative from the offcuts. Need inspiration? Check our Pinterest boards: Offcut Challenge Ideas and Timber Art.

  4. Register Your Entry: Complete the entry form (link below).

  5. Submit Your Work: Bring your finished project to ATT during shop hours before the deadline. We'll snap an "after" photo.

  6. Join the Exhibition: Attend the exhibition to see all the entries and vote for your favourite.

Winners will be announced on the opening night and the final day of the exhibition (peoples choice award).

*Offcuts include any timber stock that is $5 or under, excluding rare/exotics. Additional machining or larger pieces can be purchased according to the ATT price list, however, for the challenge only offcuts may be used. Each participant can take up to a milkcrate full of offcuts for this challenge.

Conditions:

  • Embrace Your Materials: All entries must be primarily constructed from timber offcuts and scraps. Let's see how you can turn simple pieces into something extraordinary.

  • Size and Scope: Keep your project within the maximum dimensions of 500x500x800 mm. Each participant may enter one project (or a set if it’s a cohesive collection).

  • Timeline: Please ensure your entry has been created within the 10 months leading up to the challenge.

  • Sustainable Crafting: We encourage mixed media projects as long as they contain at least 70% timber. Use only recycled, reclaimed, and sustainable materials. Please avoid resin and other toxic substances, although nails, screws, and glue are permitted.

  • Team Up: Collaborative works are welcome! Just make sure they meet all conditions.

  • Innovate and Inspire: If you're already a fan of working with reclaimed wood, use this challenge as a fun opportunity to innovate. Commercial items aren't eligible—push the boundaries of what you can create with offcuts!

  • Additional Guidelines for Submissions:

    • 3-D and 2-D Works: We welcome both three-dimensional and two-dimensional entries. Please note, any wall-hung pieces must be ready to display with D-hooks or appropriate hanging hardware included.

    • All Are Welcome: Whether you’re a master woodworker or just starting out, and no matter your age, this challenge is for you. Work solo or team up with friends or family for even more fun!
