We want your wood!
Have you got some old timber burning a hole in your pocket, garage, driveway, or storage space? We would love to help get it back into people’s hands.
We accept timber donations by appointment.
We accept:
Hardwoods and softwoods
Timber that has some wear or weather damage
Previously used timber, eg. fence posts and slats, broken-down hardwood furniture
Timber from building demolitions or renovations
Timber you’ve had for years and will just never get around to using
Plywood in good condition
Timber that has some nails or screws in it
We denail timber on site at Among The Trees, but as a result are not able to accept donations of timber that is more metal than wood! Get in touch if you’re not sure if your timber would be suitable for us.
Want to donate some timber? Please text or email us with your name, your suburb, and a bit of information about the timber you are wanting to donate.

Identifying different kinds of wood

Treated pine can often be recognised by a stamp or tag somewhere along the piece, or by a subtle olive-green hue. If the timber is grey or weathered, this can be detected by cutting a small piece off.

Treated pine can often be recognised by a subtle olive-green hue or more distinct green colouring.

Reclaimed timber was often fixed with nails or screws, and they can sometimes remain behind. If your timber has nails, please let us know.

We accept heavily weathered timber if the weathering and erosion don't make up most of the piece of timber.

Old fence posts and palings are often made from hardwood and we love them! Newer fences are often made with treated pine however.

Logs, sticks, and timber that has been sitting out in weather may not be able to be refinished or used. Get in touch if you're unsure if your timber will work.

Plywood is recogniseable due to the multiple layers, or plys, in a sheet. This can vary from 2-3 layers in a thin sheet to many in a thicker one.

Any timber that is painted isn't able to be donated/collected, due to the risk of the paint having lead in it.

MDF, or Medium Density Fibreboard, is engineered by breaking wood down into a near-dust form and forming into panels with wax and resin.

Chipboard has a core of chips of wood and glue or resin, and can have no outer layer, or a laminated outer layer (a thick sheet of timber or plastic).
